Adrianne Palicki Joins the Cast of G.I. Joe 2

The cast for Paramount's G.I. Joe 2 continues to add new recruits.

With the recent additions of French actress Elodie Yung (District 13: Ultimatum) as Jinx, D.J. Cotrona as the beret-wearing Flint and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as heavy machine gunner and aspiring chef Roadblock, the sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is loaded with new characters. Deadline reports that the latest addition is Adrianne Palicki, who will play Lady Jaye, the Joe team's covert operations specialist. In the Marvel comic books, Lady Jaye has a romance with Flint, which could be duplicated in the script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the screenwriters behind Zombieland.

Palicki was cast in the lead in NBC's Wonder Woman TV pilot, which was canceled before it even aired. Her consolation prize, it would appear, is G.I. Joe 2.

Another character that has yet to be cast is Joe Colton, the original G.I. Joe character and action figure, originally released in 1964, who, in the comic book continuity, has achieved the rank of General. The Deadline report claims that several actors are being looked at for the role, including Bruce Willis.

The 3-D production only has a few characters returning from Rise of the Cobra, including Channing Tatum (Duke), Ray Park (Snake Eyes), and Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow). Johnson is said to be a "a full-on lead role" in the sequel which producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has revealed will appeal to ninja fans.

Jon Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) is directing G.I. Joe 2, which will open on Aug. 10, 2012.
